George was born in 1810/11 in Scotland. The link to this George and parents is uncertain.

 

In 1841 George was a mason residing at Watson's Lane, Dundee with his wife Henrietta and Janet Colville (15 not Angus). In 1855 George was listed in the Manchester Trade Directory as a mason living at 9 Dalton Street, Manchester. In 1861 Slater's Manchester Directory he was a mason living at 162 Ridgeway Road, Butler Street, Manchester. In the 1861 census he was a stone mason residing at 10 Pine Street, Broughton near Salford, Lancashire with his wife Henrietta, children William, Thomas, Agnes, Jane and Elizabeth, and a lodger and dress maker Martha Rothwell (36 Whitfield). In 1869 and 1874 he was a stone mason, having moved to 102 Ridgeway Road. In 1881 his wife, son Thomas (traveller) and Eliza (scholar) were at home. In 1881 George was a retired mason living in Withington, Lancashire; at home were his wife and son William.

 

Note: Another probable daughter Eleanor Waugh Doig was married in Jan/Mar 1877 in Chorlton.

In 1881 he was again a boilermaker living with Margaret in Barony, Lanark.
