The IGI lists George's birth as 7 Nov 1807. In the christening record George was named after his grandfather George Doig.
The following link is uncertain and based on approx. age, location, and eldest son named George. Older men would often become "younger" to marry a younger woman.
George and his family boarded the bark "Charlotte Harrison" (540 tons) in Greenock, Scotland and sailed to America. They arrived in the port of New York on 16 July 1850.
In 1850 George Doig (32 Scotland) was an Engineer in Ward 17, New York, NY with his wife Elizabeth (29 Scotland) and children Elizabeth (11 England), George (8 England), John (3 Scotland), and Isabella (4 mo NY). George filed for citizenship in 1856 in Cook Co., IL and became a naturalized citizen. In 1860 George (age 50) was a machinist residing in the 5th Ward, Chicago, Cook Co., IL (page 232-3) with his wife Betsey (age 39) and sons George and John. In the 1892 Chicago Voter's Registration he listed as living in Cook Co. for 40 years, then residing at 336 Adams Street, Chicago.
Note: Another possible child Marion Stewart Doig was born Jan/Mar 1840 in Morepeth, England where son George was born the following year.
George died at a reported age of 80 in 1893.
