      In 1851 Margaret was listed as a widow; she was a pendiclar (small farmer) at Wester of Essenday with Rachell, George, David, and "nephew" William Stewart. In 1861 Margaret was a fund holder living at Craigton with son George and grandson William Stewart.

     

      Margaret's death certificate was witnessed by her son George.

Notes for George Doig

      In 1841 George was an agricultural laborer at Craigend of Gowrie on the farm of Thomas Barrie.  In 1851 George was a farm servant living with his mother at Wester of Ependay, Clunie.  In 1861 he was unmarried and farmed the 50 acres at Craigton; his mother, nephew William Stewart, and two servants lived with him. In 1871 George farmed at Haugh End, Alyth. In 1881 he farmed 224 acres in Alyth; at home here his wife, two children and a servant Marjory Doig, born 1863/4 in Kirriemuir. In 1891 the family lived at Haughend Farm House, Lintrathen with 1 servant. In 1901 he lived in Alyth with his son James.

     

      An extract of George's testament reads: George Doig, Farmer, Haughend near Alyth, died 14 May 1904, at Haughend aforesaid, intestate. Confirmation granted at Perth, 25 October 1904, to James Doig, Farmer, Haughend aforesaid, Executor dative qua next of kin. Value of Estate, £809, 9s. 4d.

Notes for David Doeg

      In 1851 David was a cattle dealer living with his mother at Wester of Essenday, Clunie. An unnamed male child was born in 1856 to David Doig and Elizabeth Robertson in Caputh and died that day; son David was born a month after they were married.

     

      In 1861 David was a cattle dealer living at Williamsburg, Clunie.  In 1871 he was a farmer of 130 acres at West Claypots employing four men; the family lived in a 3 room house; son John was not at home in 1871.  In 1881 he farmed 180 acres in Caputh; at home were his wife and children George, John, Jane, James, William, Thomas, and Robert.

     

      An extract of David's testament reads: 25 March 1885 - Confirmation of David Doeg, Farmer and Auctioneer, Claypots, Spittalfield, Parish of Caputh, who died 26 November 1884, at Claypots aforesaid, testate, granted at Perth, to George Doeg, Auctioneer and Farmer, Claypots aforesaid, his son, Executor nominated in Will or Deed, dated 13 November 1884, and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Perth, 20 March 1885. Value of Estate, £1,021. 3s.

     

      MARRIAGE: Witnesses were Robert McLeish and John Leslie.

      William was illegitimate.

     

      In 1841, 1851, and 1861 William lived with his Doeg grandparents at Craigton, Clunie. He was a ploughman. In 1881 he was a mill man in a woolen factory residing at 4 Mill Wynd, East Church, Perth with his wife Jane, son David, and his first cousin Donald Doig.

      In 1881 David was a Metropolitan Police Inspector residing at 35 Rackham Street, London with his wife Hannah and 5 children. In 1891 and 1892 he was a greengrocer at 10 Garfield Buildings, London.

     

      Marriage and children recorded as Rodgie, but name appears as Rodger in census records.
