Notes for Mary Katherine Doigg

Dallas Morning News, The (TX) - December 7, 2003

Deceased Name: WOODRUFF KATHY DOIGG SCHLINKMANN

WOODRUFF, KATHY DOIGG SCHLINKMANN of Dallas died early Wednesday morning after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Born Mary Katherine Doigg in April 1944, the third child of pharmacist and Dallas drugstore owner Ervin Doigg and wife Mary, she grew up in a warm and carefree environment. Kathy attended Preston Hollow Elementary, Franklin Jr. High, and Hillcrest High School. Her time at the University of Colorado was Kathys only residence away from Dallas. Kathy met and married an engineer from Germany named Werner 'Jerry Schlinkmann and together they had two boys, Alex and Jamie. Kathy and Jerry owned an electronics service shop and spent weekends boating on Lake Texoma with the boys. After Jerry suddenly died in 89 Kathy sold the business and pursued a career in real estate. It was at an open house that she met Ray Woodruff whom she fell in love with and later married. Soon after their marriage Kathy was diagnosed with breast cancer and began a struggle that ultimately eclipsed her bright and happy life. Initially thought to be non-invasive, her cancer was not treated for the two years following diagnosis-likely altering her odds in this mortal campaign. Still, Kathy and Ray had a busy and enjoyable ten years and numerous friends to show for it. Kathy was very active at Highland Park United Methodist Church. As charter members of the First Light and members of the Seekers Sunday School Classes, she and Ray volunteered in many of the church programs including Night Owls. Kathy is survived by her husband Ray, sons Alex and Jamie Schlinkmann, brother Charles Doigg and family, uncle Bob Mitchell and family, uncle Carroll Doigg and family, grandson Jake Schlinkmann, granddaughter Jesse Schlinkmann, daughter-in-law Jodi Schlinkmann, and stepson Greg Woodruff. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Night Owls at HPUMC, Gildas Club, or the Susan G. Komen foundation. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-6pm at Restland (972-238-7111 restlandfuneral home.com) and a memorial service on Monday at 10am at HPUMC. Burial will be private.
